Wireless Philadelphia selects Kleinbard as general counsel

Wireless Philadelphia, the nonprofit corporation overseeing the City of Philadelphia’s initiative to provide broadband internet access throughout the City, has selected Kleinbard to be its general counsel. Tom Speranza, a partner in the Business & Finance Department with extensive experience in mergers & acquisitions and joint ventures involving technology, will be the primary Kleinbard lawyer representing Wireless Philadelphia. Wireless Philadelphia is in the process of negotiating with several leading private technology and communications companies to construct a municipal wi-fi, or wireless broadband, network across the entire 135 square mile footprint of the City. The system is planned to become fully operational in 2006. The low-cost, high-speed service will be available to Philadelphia businesses and individuals of all income levels and aims to eliminate the digital divide. If the system is completed as currently scheduled, Philadelphia will be the first major U.S. city to construct a municipal wi fi system. More information about the project and Wireless Philadelphia’s mission can be found at www.wirelessphiladelphia.org
