Steve is a partner in the Litigation Department. He concentrates his practice in the areas of commercial litigation, employment litigation and counseling, environmental litigation, and insurance coverage law. In 1998, Steve successfully defended a wireless telecommunications company with assets in excess of $1 billion in a lawsuit filed by a competitor alleging misappropriation of trade secrets and proprietary information, and successfully argued an appeal before the Fourth Circuit concerning an insurance coverage claim. In 1999, as co-counsel to a plaintiff-executive, he obtained the largest plaintiff's employment award in the history of New Jersey, a jury verdict in the amount of $10.5 million. Prior to joining the firm, Steve was a partner in the Philadelphia law firm of Connolly Epstein Chicco Oxholm & Ewing.
From 1978 to 1984, Steve was counsel to the House Committee on Environment, Energy and Natural Resources, which conducted some of the initial congressional hearings that led to the passage of Superfund legislation. From 1984 to 1988, he was an assistant United States attorney in Philadelphia, where he prosecuted some of the first major cost recovery actions brought by the United States. Steve was also an adjunct Professor of Law at Villanova University School of Law, teaching environmental law. He is a frequent lecturer on insurance coverage issues and environmental law for the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Bar Associations, the Defense Research Institute and the Environmental Claims Managers Association.
Steve is a 1978 magna cum laude graduate of Syracuse Law School, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif. He received his undergraduate degree in 1973 from Pennsylvania State University. Steve is admitted to the Bars of Pennsylvania, California, the District of Columbia and New Jersey. |
